OAC wins first round in battle

In March, OAC filed a lawsuit against the Director of the Department of Human Services and the Superintendent of Oregon State Hospital for failure to promptly transfer people found unfit to proceed to trial from the county jails to the state hospital or other treatment facility. Based on information provided by OSH to OAC, people found unfit to proceed have been waiting weeks and months in jail while awaiting an open bed at OSH. The Metropolitan Public Defenders Services, Inc. joined in the case, because of the drain on its resources resulting from their clients’ extended time in jail.
